I had a great opportunity to go on a Snow-Camp two day skiing and snow boarding course back in the summer, where I was taught the basics on how to ski. By the end of the two day course I received my Level 1 in skiing.
“At the start of the course I was really nervous, because I have never done anything like this before”
Following the success of the two day course, I was offered to attend a six week course, however I needed funding to support me to do this course. With the help from the staff at SHYPP, we contacted the Herefordshire Community Foundation, who subsequently got funding from The Joanies Trust.
Trust on my behalf.
The six week course was very hard but was just as much fun as the two day course I attended. The course was held every Saturday morning in Gloucester. I travelled from Leominster to meet the group that came from Bristol. It was weird at first because the group of people were younger than I am but despite the age gap, I still managed to make friends that I am still in contact with.
With the support of the group and ski instructors, I managed to get my level 4 in skiing and an ASDAN qualification. With this I now have an amazing opportunity to do a ten week course and a week away in France, so that I can gain a higher level in skiing and achieve level 1 instructor qualification. This course also requires funding to which I am now looking into various ways of raising the money for the course.
On the course we learnt how to put together a set of skis and snow boards. We also learnt about the different snow seasons abroad, of which I would love to do one day in the future. We were also lucky to meet Jamie Burrows who is the fastest down hill snowboarder. He told us about his snow sports career. Which was very inspiring.
“I would like to do this professionally as an instructor”
None of this would not have been possible without Snow-Camp, SHYPP, The Joanies Trust, Herefordshire Community Foundation or the Gloucester Ski & Snowboarding centre.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me and provided this amazing opportunity”
