When dinosaurs first walked the earth, wait that might be too far, the year is 2018!! I am a 21 year old male and I have been living and providing for myself with a little help from SHYPP for the last two years.  I’ve been suffering with mental health issues and side effects from medication.

Times are evolving, first of all I don’t live in SHYPP, I now live independently which means getting a washing machine, sorting out bills, moving furniture but that’s not big news. After moving, hold up! Before I go on I need to mention one guy Alec and he is an asset coach for SHYPP, doing amazing work in the community. I’m not just saying that because he has been buying me Coca Cola. So after moving I decided that I wanted to start meeting up with Alec to discuss my future and work with my positives and aspirations. During one of the sessions I mentioned that I wanted to do some volunteering, possibly in IT. We looked into volunteering services in Hereford and approached a few before contacting HVOSS, who had just started a project called Building Better Opportunities (BBO). I went around there to introduce myself and ended up joining them.  I went to a couple of sessions at their office and got along with them and also found new interests in an IT field – “site and sound” (look it up). I was offered an interview volunteering at HVOSS, after showing them my keen eagerness and my great abilities. Now I am volunteering and I think you should too, so come down and join up at HVOSS.

So what am I doing now?  Working on improving my life, starting with studying English. I feel it is time for me to improve on this with the variety of techniques on offer, reading and writing and basically practising so I have decided and got onto an English course at Red Sparks. I feel that I still have a lot more to do if I want to live a fulfilling and happy life and know that there is help out there for whatever I decide to do.
