SHYPP Sleep out, we reached our target

On Friday October 6th SHYPP held their second annual sleepout which was held in a car park in the city centre.  We were astounded by the community response and we had 45 sleepers who swapped their beds for sleeping bags to raise money and awareness for homeless young people of Herefordshire. Thankfully it didn’t rain too much and, thanks to local businesses, the sleepers were well fed,   Although we weren’t trying to replicate homelessness, it did give sleepers some insight to the harsh reality of sleeping rough and we were all grateful that we had a warm bed to go to the next night. We had several teams going around Hereford city collecting donations from pubs and the general public.

With gift aid the sleepers smashed our target and we raised a fantastic £10,889.49.  This money will help SHYPP to support vulnerable young people who, without a safe place to sleep, would not be able to work towards positive futures.

A massive thank you to all the sleepers and the local community who donated.  The funds will go a long way to support vulnerable young people of Herefordshire.

Feedback from the sleepers.

“Thank you and the team for organising such a great event.”

“Liv and I thought exactly the same on the way home, we’re very lucky to have a warm bed to escape to.”

“Can I add my thanks and congratulations to everyone too,  it was really well organised…and despite surviving on an hour and a half of sleep good fun too.”

Next years event will be on Friday 5th October. Please contact us if you would like to take part.  The donation page is now closed, however if you still want to donate or find other ways to support SHYPP you can visit
